Raised on the beaches of an Oxbow Lake, Mateo has a distinct and virtually indecipherable dialect. He and his brother were made to study all the great works of literature and science as children. Somewhere between heliocentrism and the thermodynamic properties of steam, Mateo was profoundly affected by Sir Isaac Newton and blames him for almost everything. Ironically however, Mateo's spatial intelligence is unmatched. These days, he periodically courts Maggie and she hardly stands for it. He prefers swimming to reading and writes church canticles in his spare time.
